Wendy Jo Whiteker, 46 of Fostoria, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Bay Park Hospital in Oregon, Ohio.
She was born on November 30, 1972 in Tiffin to William D. and Gail L. (Betts) Sherwood. She married Steven Whiteker on April 13, 2002 at High Street United Methodist Church in Fostoria. He survives her along with her parents, William and Gail; aunts, Jean “Snaz” (Frank) Marley of Fostoria and Nancy (Robert) Sherwood of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; as well as other numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Edward and Viola Betts; paternal grandparents, Leon and Martha Sherwood; and her and Steven’s beloved guide dogs, “her boys,” Calypso “Clipper” and Jake.
Wendy was a 1991 Fostoria High school graduate, where she played in the band while visually impaired, memorizing the music selections. She also attended the Ohio State School for the Blind for six years. She was a service representative for Call Tech in Columbus, where she and Steven formerly resided.
Wendy was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, in Fostoria, as well as a member of the AmVets ladies auxiliary, and a former member of the American Legion, where she served as president. She was an avid BINGO player, and loved to travel.
She had a remarkable memory, and in good health she was hard to keep still. She was “a whirlwind” and “a fire plug.” She was forever thankful for her dedicated doctors.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. at MANN-HARE-HOENING Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St. in Fostoria.
Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. with Wendy’s uncle, Deacon Robert Sherwood, presiding. Burial will follow in Fountain Cemetery in Fostoria.
