Durst notches first sell-out

CAREY — Unless you already have tickets for Brian Durst's performance tonight at the Carey Brewing Station, you'll have to sit this one out and aim for next month's show. The area songwriter/performer/producer/promoter is notching a first in his musical career tonight with a sold-out concert at the brewing station, located at 300 E. Findlay St. It will also be his first time performing at the tavern in the town in which he now lives with his family after having grown up in Fostoria. "It's very cool, man," Durst said. "I've been wanting to perform at the brewery here for a while. It's only been open for a few years." The Carey Brewing Station seats 200, and Durst hopes it's a start to being able to sell out future shows at bigger venues as he approaches the fifth of his start in the music business, in September. Durst has hosted programs and performed in them at larger facilities, in front of larger numbers of fans. But this will be his first sellout with his name at the top of the list of performers. "I'm able to say I have a sold-out show with me as the headliner, not some celebrity," said Durst, who has booked a number of big-name acts at Venue 18 in Fostoria. "We're finding ways just to reach goals and keep it going." Durst said he's been looking forward to playing at the Carey Brewing Station, which has frequently hosted other performers and sports a good sound system. "It's going to be a good one," he said. "We've been in the last three Mondays, rehearsing. I just want to make sure everything is the way it should be. But it's probably going to be one of my favorite shows, and I've been doing this for a while." In addition to performing his solo pop and hip-hop tunes, Durst will also share the stage with his 14-year-old son, Brydon, with whom he regularly sings online as Team Brydon. The younger Durst has made lengthy strides since being born with agenesis of corpus collosum, which is a partial or complete absence of the area of the brain that connects the two cerebral hemispheres. "I'm pretty sure the crowd would riot if I didn't perform with him," Brian Durst said. Just as with tonight's program, other artists will perform in Durst's next show at the Carey Brewing Station, which is scheduled for 8 to 11 p.m., July 13. Northwest Ohio acts such as E1evon, Jake Fury and XO Monty will be part of "419 Vs. The World," the theme Durst has given to the show. "I'm working with a lot of young guys," Durst said. "Four-one-nine Versus the World – we have so much talent in this area. It's always the us-versus-them mentality."
