Fostoria hospital awards 12 scholarships

The ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation has awarded $14,000 in scholarships to 12 area students who are studying for degrees in health care.The scholarships were awarded on behalf of three scholarship funds administered by the foundation board. The funds were established by former physicians, nurses and their families to encourage health-care careers.Three scholarships were awarded from the G.H.W. Bruggeman Memorial Scholarship Fund, which assists employees of ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital and their children. The recipients were Abigail Beidelschies of Fostoria, who attended Hopewell-Loudon High School and is undecided on her post-secondary plans; Emily Bolton of Pemberville, who attended Eastwood High School and is now studying at Ohio State University; and Tana Larick of Tiffin, who attended Seneca East High School and is now studying at Mercy College.The award from Ruth Nichols-Sollars Nursing Education Scholarship Fund, which supports one nurse who is pursuing a higher nursing degree, was presented to Hailey Welly of Tiffin, who attended Hopewell-Loudon High School and is now studying at Capital University.Two scholarships were awarded from the J.L. Murphy Memorial Scholarship, which encourages careers in medicine. Recipients were Maryn Klaus of Burgoon, who graduated from Lakota High School and is now studying at Bowling Green State University; and Olivia Shaferly of Alvada, who attended New Riegel High School and is now studying at Miami University.Six scholarships were awarded from the J.L. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund, which supports clinical careers and other hospital-based professionals. Recipients were Camryn Kidwell of Fostoria, who attended Fremont Ross High School and is now studying at Owens Community College; Jessica Kreais of Fostoria, who attended Hopewell-Loudon High School and is now studying at Ohio Northern University; Kayleigh Lininger of New Riegel, who attended New Riegel High School and is now studying at Ohio State University; Chloe Malagon of Fostoria, who attended Hopewell-Loudon High School and is now studying at Owens Community College; Olivia Zender of Fostoria, who attended Hopewell-Loudon High School and is now studying at Bluffton University; and Brady Ziegler of Bloomdale, who attended Elmwood High School and is undecided on post-secondary studies.The ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation's scholarship program has awarded $175,000 since its inception in 1997.A scholarship reception took place in May for all scholarship recipients, including winners of the ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Auxiliary scholarship awards.
