Woodland management program Saturday

Seneca Conservation District is hosting a woodland management program featuring forester Sam Kaiser at 10 a.m. Saturday at Proving Ground Farm West, 5670 E. TR 138. Kaiser, a service forester with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, will be at the portion of the farm formerly known as Miller Conservation Farm to talk about when, why and how to manage woodlands. He plans to discuss techniques and knowledge for understanding, managing, conserving and experiencing woodlands. Some of the topics include management options, tree and invasive species identification and programs to assist landowners. "The topic marries up to associated wildlife benefits and it's an opportunity for the public to meet with our partner organization, ODNR," said Rick Hassinger, SCD's wildlife specialist. "The conservation district promotes the wise use of all resources - be it soil, water, wildlife, or woodland." The event is free and no registration is required. Anyone interested in woodlands, has a woodland or has invasive vegetation is encouraged to attend. "The presentation will be a walk-and-talk format so very informal and attendees will have an opportunity to chat casually with a service forester," Hassinger said.
