Police profile: Officer Jennifer Muro

Editor's Note: As part of National Police Week, we talked to a few of Fostoria's finest to give readers a chance to get to know them a little. First up is Officer Jennifer Muro. Officer Jennifer Muro was born in Virginia but moved around a lot in her life. She spent time in Tiffin then moved to the Bradner area, where she completed high school in Elmwood Local Schools. After finishing high school, Muro went to Terra State Community College, leaving with an associate's degree in Graphic Design. However, she decided to go back to school and attended Owens Community College for Criminal Justice. Muro then went on to the police academy and graduated from the academy in 2011. "I decided to pursue criminal justice because I watched my sister who is a couple years older struggle with issues and I realized the impact it made on myself and my family," Muro said. "I wanted to not only enforce the law but to relate to victims and the families of people we arrest. "I am a big believer in right and wrong, but I think its also important to understand the whole picture," she said. Muro spent time working in hospitals and corrections before applying to Fostoria Police Department in late 2017. Her family lives in the area, so it was a plus that she was able to find a position close to her family, she said. Muro was hired in March 2018 and started her job as a full-time road patrol officer. In her free time, Muro enjoys spending time with her family and friends, taking her dog to the park, attending concerts and rollerblading. "I see myself at the department for a long time," she said. "I enjoy the call volume, my coworkers and the shift I work."
