The people have spoken.
Dell’s has done it again.
Fostoria Dell’s Restaurant took its award-winning Wally’s Great American BBQ to Columbus this week and came home with yet another trophy to hang on the mantle.
Wally’s took home the People’s Choice Grand Championship award for the second time Tuesday during the Ohio State Fair in Columbus.
Pat Brady, Dell’s owner and Wally’s co-owner, said this is the first time since 2007 his business has won the state’s most prestigious barbecue award and it is one that has alluded him in the past.
“This is really the sweetest one for us and we wanted to make sure we took it home,” he said. “I think we’ve finally figured it out. I’ve been doing this for 20 years and I think after about 18 years, we finally got it right.”
The taste buds of approximately 600 ballot-wielding fairgoers were wined and dined Tuesday as Pat and company dished out five cases of ribs, as well as Wally’s famous pulled pork.
“It means a lot,” said Aaron Brady, Dell’s manager. “It’s something I’ve done with my father for a long time now; and, to be able to work with him all year is a reward. It pays off for those long days and hard nights staying up all night wrapping ribs until 4 a.m. It’s good to see that you can work hard for something and be recognized for something on that level.”
Last year, Wally’s won a Grand Championship award for the second year in a row at the 2013 Ohio State Fair for its pulled pork. Additionally, Wally’s ribs have won the Ohio State Fair’s Grand Champion award for ribs in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012.
