Federal Lawsuit Over Cincinnati Park Rules Settled

CINCINNATI (AP) — Three residents of a Cincinnati neighborhood have settled their federal lawsuit over rules for a renovated urban park they said were written behind closed doors and designed to exclude homeless and poor people.

Attorney Jennifer Kinsley represented the residents. She said the 2012 lawsuit against the city parks board was dismissed Monday after an undisclosed monetary settlement with the city.

Cincinnati’s city solicitor didn’t immediately return a call.

The lawsuit had said the rules weren’t discussed at public meetings. It sought to bar enforcement of the rules that included banning people from rummaging through trash bins at the park and from dropping off food or clothing.

City officials earlier wouldn’t discuss how the rules were reached but said they were intended for safety and sanitation and removed before the lawsuit.
