Chair Says Ohio GOP Not Thwarting Libertarians

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s Republican party chairman has told a federal judge his party was not behind recent challenges to a Libertarian candidate trying to run against Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik).

Chairman Matt Borges (BOHR’-jihs) testified Monday he misspoke when initially telling reporters the Ohio GOP had a role in challenging Libertarian Charlie Earl’s candidacy.

The Plain Dealer of Cleveland reports (http://bit.ly/1cV0jWy) that Borges’ testimony came in a legal challenge to the March 7 decision by Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted (HYOO’-sted) to disqualify Earl from the primary.

Husted found two Earl petitioners failed to properly disclose their employers.

The newspaper reports that Borges told federal judge Michael Watson that Republicans neither sought out nor paid two voters who filed the Earl challenge.

Watson expects a decision this week.
