Julia M. Brooks. 89, of Fostoria, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania.
She was born on July 22, 1928 in Spartenburg, SC, to John and Florence (Whitmire) Tanner. She married Randolph Brooks in Toledo on February 4, 1961, and he preceded her in death in 2005.
Surviving, and cherishing her memory, are her children, Eva Mae Elmore, of Spartenburg, SC, Betty Jo Smith, of Spartenburg, SC, Bennie Elmore, also of Spartenburg, SC, Dorothy Pitts, of Fostoria, Suzette (Larry) Gilchrist, of Toledo, and James (Lisa) Brooks, of Golf Port, MS; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Julia was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Fostoria, and a member of Eastern Star. She worked for General Electric, and then went on to become a nurse’s aide at Fox Run Nursing Home, from where she retired in 2002.
Julia enjoyed baking cakes, pies, making candy, cooking and entertaining, and she loved wearing her pretty hats!
Whereas Julia was the matriarch of the family, she wore “many hats.” She was a self-sufficient woman who loved to be in the know.
In her later years, Julia could be found daily, sitting in her chair on her front porch, taking in the world.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
