Donald J. Rogier, 77, formerly of Risingsun, currently of Fostoria, passed away at 7:13 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at ProMedica Fostoria Hospital.
He was born January 16, 1941 in Fostoria to the late Christie and Bertha (Elchert) Rogier. He married Shirley A. Scherger on July 27, 1963 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, and she survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are seven children, Joe Rogier of Portage, MI, Dawn (Qani Belul) Rogier of China, Nikki (Matt) McIver of Sheffield Village, Phaedra (Matt) Swonger of Perrysburg, Chris (Emma) Rogier of Tampa, FL, April (Chad) Mowery of N. Baltimore and Marcus (Michelle) Rogier of Powell; ten grandchildren, Wyatt, Casey and Everett Mowery, Mattie and Owen Swonger, Jessica, Jacob and Katie McIver, Carl and Hank Rogier; and siblings, Pat Wasserman of Helena, Sister Rita Rogier C.PP.S., John Rogier of Tiffin, Robert (Gail) Rogier of Tiffin and Mike (Jean) Rogier of Fostoria.
Don retired in 1993 as the administrator of Lakota School after 26 years with the school. As administrator he was responsible for bus transportation and food services for the school. He had also served as the school principal and teacher. He had also taught at Elmwood School.
Don was a 1959 graduate of New Riegel High School and a 1963 graduate of Ohio State University. He earned his master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.
He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church where he was a lector. He was a member of the Seneca County Retired Teachers Assn., and former board member of the Sandusky County Metropolitan Housing Board. Don was a life member of the Seneca County Genealogical Society, where he was a Co-Editor for the Seneca County Searchers Newsletter from 1995-2008. He was also a former member of the Sandusky County Democratic Committee from Scott Twp., where he worked as an election official.
Don enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, reading and collecting stamps.
Don loved life and his family, especially his grandchildren. He was faith filled and strived to help make a better world. He enjoyed traveling and collecting a variety of things.
Visitation is Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2-6 p.m. at HOENING FUNERAL HOME, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio 44830.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday. February 12, 2018 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Dominique presiding. A Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel.
Memorials are suggested to St. Wendelin Parish, Fostoria EMS or All Saints Parish, New Riegel.
