Norma J. Flechtner, 95, of Fostoria, passed away Friday afternoon, July 28, 2017 at Good Shepherd Home, in Fostoria.
She was born on August 28, 1921 to the late Lester W. and Laura (Pearson) Deerwester. She married Charles J. Flechtner and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1977.
She is survived by one grandson, Charlie Flechtner, of Fostoria; three great-granddaughters, Samantha, of Columbus, and Madison and McKaylin of Bloomdale; two nieces, Allana (David Smith), of Grand Haven, MI, and Cindy (Richard) Teeple, of Bradner; four great-nieces, Kelly VanWeelde, of Sparta, MI, Sara Neal, of Grand Rapids, MI, Katie Smith, of Tiffin, and Erin Filliater, of Findlay; step niece and nephew, Angie Teeple, of Bradner, and Skip Teeple, of Bowling Green; and eight great-great nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her only son, Donald Flechtner; a brother, Walter “Toot” Deerwester; and a sister who was silently born.
Norma was a member of the Fostoria Baptist Church. A devout Christian, her church family, with whom she traveled to Israel, the Holy Land, was very important to her. She was a 1939 Fostoria High School graduate, and retired from Fostoria Industries in 1976. Enjoying travel, she also went on an Alaskan cruise.
Norma was a very strong, independent woman with a great sense of humor. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and aunt who will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at MANN-HARE-HOENING Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline Street, Fostoria. Funeral services will begin immediately following at 7 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Hicks presiding.
Norma will be laid to rest privately in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.
