Audrey Blanche Weis 93, of Independence House, Fostoria, Ohio passed away on August 16, 2014. She was born in Curtice, Ohio on September 25, 1920 to Ferdinand and Dehlia Shaneck; the 4th of nine children.
Audrey graduated from Clay High School in 1939, where she met Henry Weis, the love of her life. They were married in College Point, New York in July 1939 during the World’s Fair.
Audrey lived in College Point, New York, Lemont, Illinois, Curtice, Northwood and Fostoria, Ohio, where she excelled in the most important and demanding career of all time: motherhood. This eventually led to a promotion in the department of grandmotherhood in which she was oft and adoringly referred to as “Bunga” by her bevy of grandchildren. Later in life Audrey turned down an early retirement package and in due course mastered the art of Great-grand motherhood with unsurpassed poise and grace.
Audrey was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria. She and Henry were very active in their church. Their love of children led them to be Luther League advisors for many years.
Audrey is survived by many including her three children, Sandra (Dan) Hughes of Bothell, Washington, Gail (John) Hilburn of Wentzville, Missouri and Tim (Cathy) Weis of Fostoria, Ohio. And lest we forget, Audrey has 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren to carry on her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great grandson; four brothers; four sisters; and a niece and nephew.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 2″”4 and 6″”8 p.m. at Harrold Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Funeral services will be Friday, August 22, 2014 at Hope Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Larry Knigga officiating.
