Ronald J. Hoover, 71, of Bascom, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 9, 2014.
On July 17, 1943 in Tiffin, he was born to Francis “Frank” and Estella (Kimmet) Hoover. He married Patricia M. Blair on May 7, 1966 in St. Mary Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Patti of 48 years; two sons, Ken Hoover and Jim (Jen) Hoover, both of Carey; a sister, Rosemary Magers of Tiffin; six grandchildren, Paige, Zack, Tyler, Autumn, Brandan, and Sage; and one great grandson, Thaddeus Alexander, arriving in September.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Kenneth, Donald, Charles, Richard, and Sid Hoover; and a sister, Norma Jean Haefer.
Ron served his country, joining the U.S. Army in February 1962, stationed in Germany working as a radio technician on the Nike guided missiles. He was honorably discharged in February 1965.
He started working for Ford Autolite, Allied Signal and later retired from Honeywell in Fostoria after 30 years in 1996.
Ron enjoyed working on electronics, playing his guitar and especially loved his grandchildren. He was a very kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, 419-447-2424 with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow with military honors by the United Veterans Council at Seneca Memory Gardens.
Friends may visit and share stories with the family on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
