Melford Eugene Wilcox, 83, of Findlay, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at The Heritage. He was born October 5, 1930, to Harold and Alice (Savidge) Wilcox in Fostoria, Ohio. He married Walta Lou Dillon October 31, 1954 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria.
Melford served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a chef in the Army and passed his many talents on to his friends.
Melford was a Cooper Tire employee for 42 years. He was a member of the Cooper 25 Year Club, Cooper Old Timers Club, and the Cooper Fishing Club. He was a life member of the AMVETS Post #21 and DAV #43.
He was an assistant coach of the Midget Lions Football team. He is a 58 year member of First Lutheran Church.
His favorite pastimes and hobbies included going to the Hancock Agency on Aging and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved working at the Hancock Agency on Aging. He also enjoyed doing yard work, going fishing, and cooking/baking.
Melford is survived by his sons, John (Mary Jo), Jim, David (Pam), Brian, Brad, and Douglas (Cathy); 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Myron (June) Wilcox; step-brother, James Patterson; and step-sister, Eleanor Scifers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Walta; and son, Thomas Lee.
Friends and family may visit Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500).
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Mike Thompson officiating. Interment will follow the service in Maple Grove Cemetery. The Hancock County Veteran’s Memorial Squad will perform full military rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Melford’s name may be made to Cancer Patient Services of Findlay, Ohio.
