Raymond G. “Ray” Burns, 80, of Fostoria, passed away at 12:06 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born May 12, 1933 in Hancock County to the late Arthur J. and Marcella (Fox) Burns. He married Marcele M. “Marcie” Foos on May 7, 1955 at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Gibsonburg and she died December 15, 2012.
Surviving are his children, Ronald (Evelyn) Burns of Tiffin, Teresa (William) Faeth of Fostoria, Todd (Amy) Burns of Fostoria, Timothy (Margie) Burns of Fostoria, Christopher (Rochelle) Burns of Upper Arlington and Jeffrey (Marlene) Burns of Fostoria; 21 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Karl J. (Judy) Burns of Columbus.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Burns; and two sisters, Joan Brenamen and Marilyn Burns.
Ray was a marketer for Sohio and BP oil products for over 40 years in the area. In 1978 he became a Real Estate Agent for Hammer-Heinsman Realty and retired in 2012 from Goddard Murphy Reality.
He was a 1951 graduate of Arcadia High School, a Faithful member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, 3rd degree Knights of Columbus Council # 1197, a 4th degree Fr. Raymond G. Kirsch Assembly # 845 since 1962 and a charter founder of St. Wendelin’s Mohawk Club.
Ray and Marcie were honored at the 2011 Seneca County Family Children’s First Council Award as “Distinguished Youth Asset Builders.” He enjoyed being awarded a 2nd place red ribbon in the Columbus area for his family’s homemade ketchup recipe and was an annual sauerkraut maker.
He enjoyed his family very much, especially family gatherings, and loved to travel. He was an avid follower and supporter of his children and grandchildren’s school and sporting events. He was a loyal volunteer for St. Wendelin Church, its Parish Festival and Daybreak of Fostoria.
Visitation is Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 1-8 p.m. at HOENING FUNERAL HOME 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, where a 4th degree honor guard will stand from 7-8 p.m. and a Chalice presentation will take place at 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where a Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Committal services are at the United Veterans Chapel, Fostoria with burial following in St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the “Ray Burns Memorial Fund.”
