Darrell H. Whetsel, 76, of Fostoria, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at Toledo Hospital. He was born January 14, 1938 in Cygnet to Melvin and Lillian (Short) Whetsel. He married Luella Faye Chambers August 18, 1956 at Mt. Zion Church, Wayne.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Whetsel, of Fostoria; a daughter, Cindy (Rex) Reinhart, of Fostoria; sons, Rick (Louan) Whetsel, of Risingsun, and Bill (Eileen) Whetsel, of Fostoria; sisters, Kathy Burmeister and Rosalie Arndt; grandchildren, Candice Fought, Ashley Whetsel, Olivia Braun, and Trent and Brody Whetsel; step grandchildren, Darci Graber and Desi Holcombe; and, six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Wayne Whetsel; a daughter, Sharon Kay Whetsel; and brothers, Ronnie and Joe Whetsel.
Darrell retired from the City of Fostoria in 1996. He attended Montgomery High School and he was a lifetime member of the Fostoria United Sportsmen Club and Fostoria Moose Lodge. Darrell was an avid Nascar fan and the owner of Whetsel Salvage. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria with Pastor Paul Rutledge officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 21, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Wayne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Wendelin High School or Perry Township Fire Department. The family has asked that all attending the services dress casual.
