Thomas E. Vitt

Thomas E. Vitt, 72, of Fostoria, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, March 9, 2014, in his home with his family by his side.
Tom was born October 15, 1941 in Fostoria to the late Edward F. and Eula Mae (Ritter) Vitt.
He married Marvene Smith (Brown) on June 9, 1990 at Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria, and she survives him.
Also surviving are their children, Deborah (Michael Foor) Vitt of Canal Winchester, Dennis (Katherine Bushe’y) Vitt of Arcadia, California, Robyn Benner of Fostoria, Tod (Chris) Brown of St. Clair Shores, MI, Kip Brown of Fostoria, Ohio, and Ryan (Jennifer) Brown of Novi, MI; nine grandchildren, Megan, Nicole, Amy, Kyle, Kane, Nathanael, Jonathan, Caroline, and Joshua; a sister, Nancy (Dean) Little; and two brothers, Dan (Jeanie) Vitt, and Terry (Nikki) Vitt, all of Fostoria.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Smith and Carol Kauffman; and two brothers, Michael and Dennis Vitt.
Tom was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria, where he had been a Lay Pastoral Assistant for many years, calling on those whom were homebound or in nursing homes. Being the caring, kind, and compassionate man that Tom was, he also called on fellow church members and friends whenever he felt there might be an occasion for a visit. Tom never knew a stranger. He continued his graciousness through helping with visitation and funerals at both Mann-Hare-Hoening and Hoening Funeral Homes, always with tenderness and consideration.
Tom was a 1959 Fostoria High School graduate. He then became a U.S. Army Veteran having served from 1960-1963 in the Military Police as a Sentry Dog Handler, during the Nike-Hercules Missile systems, pre B52 Bomber period. Our Country is forever grateful for his service.
He was a truck driver for 41 years, having worked for Fostoria Concrete, Craun Transportation in Bettsville, Roadway and BOC Gases, Fostoria. He retired in 2004. In his leisure time Tom enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his grandchildren. It was his family that gave him the most pleasure in his life.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at MANN-HARE-HOENING Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria.
Funeral Services will begin 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria, Rev. Dr. Larry Knigga, officiating, with an hour of visitation at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, where the United Veterans of Fostoria will provide Military Honors.
