Hubert R. Tolbert, Sr., age 85, of Wayne, Ohio passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Wood Haven Health Care in Bowling Green, Ohio. He was born on August 9, 1928 in Town Creek, Alabama to the late Jeff Pilgrim and Georgie Marie (Peebles) Tolbert. He was married to Bessie I. Winters and Sandra L. McDonald.
Surviving are son, Hubert R. “Butch” Tolbert, Jr. of West Millgrove, Ohio; daughter, Nikki Lafferty of West Millgrove, Ohio; step-daughter, Alice Faye Holt of Scottsboro, Alabama; brother, George Eugene Tolbert of West Millgrove, Ohio; grandchildren, Rebecca, Eli, and Sadi; and great-grandchildren, Myria and Alice.
He was preceded in death by brother, Elmo; sisters, Lorine Williams, Mabel Peebles, Catherine Seem and Helen Steiner; and grandson, Chad.
He was the former owner/operator of Tolbert Heating-Cooling-Electric, which is now owned/operated by his son.
He served his country proudly in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338 in Bradner, Ohio and the Wayne United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne, Ohio where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 with Pastor Mark Kuhlman officiating.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in West Millgrove, Ohio with military honors provided by the Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338 in Bradner. A bereavement luncheon will immediately follow the committal service at the Albert Bowe American Legion Post in Bradner.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department or the Bradner EMS.
