Prep golf: Gibsonburg wins Elmwood Invite

NORTH BALTIMORE — McComb’s Ross Wenzinger toured Birch Run Golf Course with a crisp round of 74 Monday to capture the individual championship at Elmwood’s Royal Invitational.

Wenzinger, whose round was six strokes better than runner-up Jaden Bucher of North Baltimore, helped the Panthers to a second-place finish with a team score of 371.

Gibsonburg edged McComb by a single stroke to win the team championship with a 370. North Baltimore (397) was third, New Riegel (416) was fourth, Arcadia (422) took fifth and Elmwood (457) was sixth in the eight-team field.

Brandon Siefert shot a 100 to pace New Riegel; Wyatt Lucas carded a 98 to pace Arcadia; and Carter Taft’s 102 led Elmwood. Jake Counts shot an 87 for Fostoria, which did not have enough players for a team score.

Trey Groves added a 106 for the Redmen.

VB boys 5th

COLUMBUS — Noah Frederick carded a 77 Monday to lead Van Buren’s boys golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Columbus Academy Shoot-Out at the Columbus Country Club.

Connor Ohlrich shot a 78, Quentin Weddell added an 84 and A.J. Overmyer shot an 85 as Van Buren finished with a 324 team score.

Kettering Alter won the team title with a 308, one stroke ahead of Columbus St. Charles and Columbus Academy Maroon who tied for second at 309. Bexley’s Trevor Binau was the individual medalist with a 68.

Adams all-tourney

SYLVANIA — Taylor Adams led Van Buren’s girls golf team with an 87 Monday as the Black Knights were fifth at the Sylvania Invitational at Highland Meadows Golf Course.

Olivia Sexton shot a 97, Grace Heitkamp shot a 121 and Ali Bishop added a 136 as Van Buren finished with a 441 team score.

Sylvania Northview won the tournament with a 369, followed by Bowling Green (389) and Perrysburg (390). Northview’s Lexi Knight was the individual medalist with a 73.
