Locally: Otsego drops Fostoria in NBC baseball action

TONTOGANY — Otsego plated five runs in the second inning to assume control Wednesday en route to a 12-2 victory over Fostoria in five innings in a Northern Buckeye Conference baseball game.

Ben Gray and Jeremy Avers each had two RBIs for Otsego (13-5, 8-3 NBC). Winning pitcher Rancin Loftis allowed one earned run and struck out four in four innings.

Dylan Sheets, who took the loss on the mound, had a pair of singles and an RBI for Fostoria (4-23, 1-12 NBC). Trey Groves and Goose Garcia also had hits for the Redmen.

Fostoria is scheduled to wrap up its season today against Elmwood.

O’Neal shines for FHS

DEFIANCE — Fostoria’s girls sprinters fared well on the first day of the Division II district track meet at Defiance.

Fostoria’s Haili O’Neal advanced in three events. She posted the seventh-best time in the 200 (27.73). She also teamed with Dashani Taylor, Macey Sheets and Taylor Sauber to advance with the sixth-best time in the 400 relay (52.91) and Sheets, Sauber and Bathsheba Smith for the No. 6 time in the 800 relay (1:51.00).

No Fostoria boys were able to advance in Wednesday’s prelims.

The meet will wrap up Friday with the remainder of the field events and the running event finals.

Nusser leads Whitta

Colin Nusser doubled twice and drove in three runs as Fostoria Whitta Construction defeated Old Fort 16-7 in a Sandusky County B League youth baseball game Tuesday.

Trenton Wilson added a double and two RBIs while Evan Askam singled and plated a run for Fostoria.

Jalen Wagner got the win, striking out four batters in two innings. Dawson Smith tallied seven strikeouts in three innings.
