Prep roundup: VB finishes unbeaten in BVC

VAN BUREN — Cade Whitticar and Jaden Tabler combined on a two-hit shutout and the offense scored 15 runs in four innings as Van Buren throttled North Baltimore 15-0 in Monday’s Blanchard Valley Conference game.

With the win, Van Buren completed a perfect 11-0 run through the BVC this season. North Baltimore fell to 13-9 overall and 7-4 in the BVC.

Whitticar, who singled with two RBIs, pitched four scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Tabler, with a perfect inning of relief, singled with an RBI for the Black Knights (18-5).

Saige Warren chipped in two doubles and an RBI for Van Buren, while Codi Leonard singled twice and drove in a game-high four runs.

Logan Meronk and Tyler Durfey each singled for both of the Tigers’ hits.

ARCADIA — Matt Johnson spun a two-hit shutout and paced Arlington’s offense in a 6-0 Blanchard Valley Conference win over Arcadia.

Johnson, who struck out nine and did not walk a batter, tallied a pair of hits with two RBIs at the plate for the Red Devils (9-15, 4-7 BVC). Evan O’Rear singled and also knocked in a pair of runs.

Kaleb Enders, with a single and a double, had both hits for the Redskins (8-13, 4-6).

NEW RIEGEL — New Riegel scored in five of seven innings on Monday including a walkoff run in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 7-6 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division win over Fremont St. Joseph.

Alec Zoeller and winning pitcher Allan Acree combined for nine walks, but allowed just seven hits and struck out 16 batters for the Blue Jackets (12-7, 7-3 SBC River). Aaron Hohman paced the offense going 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI. Cole Noftz (1B, 3B, 2 RBI), Nick Reinhart (1B, 2B, RBI) and Dylan Smith (1B, 2B, RBI) each added a pair of hits.

Logan Black and Dylan Filliater both had two singles and Black added three walks for the Crimson Streaks (10-15, 4-6).

ARCADIA — Arlington’s Emily Berry and Addy Lafferty combined on a three-hit shutout as the Red Devils blanked Arcadia 10-0 in a Blanchard Valley Conference softball game Monday.

Berry got the win going the first four inning to raise her record to 6-2. Lafferty pitched the fifth inning.

Both Arlington pitchers also starred at the plate as they each had three singles and an RBI.

Moriah Helms and Sarah Solt both drove in three runs with a pair of singles, Abbey Sheets homered and singled for the Red Devils (13-9 overall, 6-5 BVC).

Ivy Noel, Elizabeth Keefe and Isabelle Mundy each singled for the Redskins (10-15, 4-7).

NEW RIEGEL — New Riegel scored three first-inning runs and added two more in the sixth as it staved off Fremont St. Joseph’s comeback attempt in a 5-3 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division win on Monday.

Jacquelyn Lininger, who earned the complete-game win, singled and drove in a run for the Blue Jackets (18-8, 8-2 SBC River). Jenna Gabel doubled twice and had two RBIs and Brianna Gillig doubled and drove in two runs.

The Crimson Streaks (4-18, 1-9) scored three runs in the seventh inning led by Callie Kelbley’s 3-for-4 day with a double and two RBIs.
