Prep basketball: Gillig pours in 43 points in New Riegel win

KANSAS — Brianna Gillig shot just a tick above 50 percent from the free-throw line on Tuesday.
But that was the only blip in her game as her 3-point stroke was on and she continued to dominate the paint, scoring 43 points in carrying New Riegel to a 64-53 win over Lakota in Sandusky Bay Conference River Division play.
Gillig popped in 5 of 9 (55.6 percent) 3-pointers and added another 11 2-pointers while chipping in a game-best 15 rebounds for the Blue Jackets (10-10, 8-1 SBC River). Kaitlyn Kirian added 11 points for New Riegel.
Kaitlyn Mogle paced the Raiders (7-14, 2-8) with 13 points, while Alexa Gabel, Mackenzie Feathers and Samantha Wallace each scored nine points.

BLOOMDALE — Elmwood struggled to make baskets, found itself down 10 at halftime and ended up with a 48-32 loss to Oak Harbor in nonconference action.
The Royals finished the home part of their schedule with their overall record at 14-7. They do, however, have a chance to share or claim outright the Northern Buckeye Conference when they wrap up the regular season on Thursday night at Fostoria.
Both Elmwood and Eastwood will take 11-2 NBC records into their final regular-season contests on Thursday night. The Eagles travel to Otsego.
Elmwood made just 13 of 45 shots from the field (28.9 percent) against the Rockets (17-4), including 0-for-12 from 3-point territory.
Amanda Riley scored 16 points for Oak Harbor, followed by Logan Harris with 14.
Zoe Shank’s 10 points led the Royals, who had only four players score. Mattison Hillard recorded nine points and a pair of assists. Maddie Schramko and Peighton Troike notched six points apiece, with Schramko adding 12 rebounds and three steals.

Luke Bolte led three Hopewell-Loudon (12-6) players in double digits with 13 points. Jordan Jury and Jake Simonis each scored 10 points. Jury had six assists and Bolte a team-best six rebounds.
Brevon Polachek led Willard (4-13) with 15 points. Terry Baldridge had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Myles Pinkston added 10 points.
