Cross Country Roundup: Van Buren’s Pisarsky leads area runners at CG

COLUMBUS GROVE — Van Buren’s Autumn Pisarsky was the only area top 10 cross country finisher at Saturday’s Columbus Grove Invitational.
Minster dominated the girls Red Division as the Wildcats swept the top five spots in the team race to win with 15 points. Fostoria (14th, 345) and Elmwood (17th, 424) also participated.
Minster’s Emma Watcke won the race in 18:23.87. Pisarsky placed ninth in 19:50.33 to lead the Black Knights, who didn’t have enough runners to qualify for team scoring. Erika Gonzales was the top Fostoria High School finisher as she was 40th in 21:34.01.
Host Columbus Grove, led by individual champ Alyssa Ellerbrock (19:00.29), won the girls Gray Division race with 37 points. Hopewell-Loudon topped Carey 116-139 for fourth place.
Hopewell-Loudon’s Corrin Hoover (17th, 20:52.47) and Taylor Leiter (18th, 21:01.93) were the top local finishers in the race.
In the boys Red Division, Toledo St. Francis topped the 24-team field with 94 points. Elmwood (19th, 515), Fostoria (20th, 519) and Van Buren (23rd, 565) also competed.
Dylan Sheets led the Redmen by finishing 22nd in 17:14.95 as Wauseon’s Kyle Vernot was the champion in 15:50.90.
Ottoville’s Brendan Siefker, the returning Division III state runner up, wasn’t challenged in winning the boys Gray Division crown in 15:34.17. Minster was the Gray Division boys team champ with 56 points. Area schools in the team standings included Hopewell-Loudon (9th, 247) and New Riegel (18th, 493).
Returning state qualifier Tyler Reinhart-Anez of Hopewell-Loudon led area boys by placing 17th in 17:15.59.

Schaser leads Lakota
BUCYRUS — Lakota sophomore Braden Schaser was 15th in the boys race to lead Lakota’s cross country teams at Saturday’s Bucyrus Elks Invitational at the Crawford County Fairgrounds.
Delaware Buckeye Valley swept the boys and girls team crowns. The Barons won the girls meet with 61 points. Lakota (262) was 12th among the 16 teams.
Buckeye Valley’s Chloe Dawson won the race in 19:37.01. Riley Cozette led the Raiders by finishing 24th in 21:30.02.
Buckeye Valley scored 56 points in winning the boys meet. Lakota (234) finished ninth.
Defending Division III state champ Chad Johnson of Colonel Crawford cruised to the win in 14:57.84. Schaser crossed the finish line in 17:26.9.
