New Riegel volleyball bumps St. Wendelin

NEW RIEGEL — Kara Scherger and Taylor Arbogast combined for 40 kills, 33 digs and seven aces Tuesday night as New Riegel’s state-ranked volleyball team remained unbeaten in the Sandusky River League with a 25-16, 17-25, 25-8, 25-17 victory over St. Wendelin.
Scherger finished with 22 kills, 22 digs and five aces on 21-for-21 serving, while Arbogast had 18 kills on 39-for-39 spiking, 11 digs and a pair of aces.
The Blue Jackets (16-2 overall, 8-0 SRL), who are ranked 13th in the state in Division IV, added onto coach Cindy Walerius’ victory total at New Riegel after she gained her 200th win Monday night at Riverdale.
Lindsay Bouillon notched 24 assists and eight digs for the Blue Jackets, while Leah Bouillon recorded six kills, five assists and 10 digs, Hailey Theis tallied six aces and Natalie Reinhart served for four aces.
St. Wendelin statistics were not available by press time.
New Riegel won the junior varsity match 25-15, 25-20. Kylie Tiell had 14 assists for the Blue Jackets (17-1, 8-0), while Liz Zoeller had six kills and six digs and Shelby Mathias had five kills and five digs.
New Riegel won the freshman match 25-18, 25-23. Latasha Nye and Jacquelyn Lininger each had three aces for the Blue Jackets, while Tiffany Hemminger had four kills.
BLOOMDALE — Ashley Veryser stashed 18 kills and Jenna Wilson notched 35 assists Tuesday night as Elmwood topped Rossford 25-15, 25-6, 27-25 in Northern Buckeye Conference play.
Veryser also had five aces, five digs and five blocks and Wilson served for five aces as the Royals improved to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the NBC.
Jasmine Marsh put down 13 kills for Elmwood, while Lindsay George recorded five kills and seven digs, Jaela Kynard tallied six kills and four digs and Katie Peters had five assists.
Rossford fell to 8-8 overall and 8-3 in the NBC.
Elmwood won the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-14.
OLD FORT — Allison Adelsperger recorded 27 assists and 13 digs for Old Fort Tuesday night in a 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 Sandusky River League win over Lakota.
Sara Bell and Sydney Clouse put away eight kills apiece for the Stocakders, while Shelby Bilger made 11 digs, Jordan Magers came up with nine digs and Samantha Hartsel had five blocks.
Lakota statistics were not available by press time.
Old Fort won the junior varsity match 25-22, 25-17 as Caylie Menkhoff served for five aces and made 10 digs.
Old Fort took the freshman match 25-10, 25-10 as Hanna Bilger tallied six aces and nine digs and Maddie Spencer had six kills.
GENOA — Fostoria High School dropped to 1-18 overall and 0-11 in the Northern Buckeye Conference Tuesday night with a 28-26, 25-16, 23-25, 27-25 loss to Genoa.
Individual statistics for FHS were not available.
Genoa won the junior varsity match 25-18, 25-23.
Girls tennis
Sabra Tate took her match into a third-set supertiebreaker before coming up short Tuesday as Fostoria High School fell 5-0 to Oak Harbor at the FHS courts.
The Rockets’ Kelsey Bodnar downed Tate 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 at No. 2 singles. Michelle Boss downed Autumn Affholder 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Libbie Greider and Shannon Binns beat Ellen Guan and Cristy Gao 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Fostoria forfeited at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.
