Mohawks split pair of volleyball openers

CAREY — Olivia Zimmerman registered 13 kills and 12 digs Saturday as St. Wendelin opened its season by splitting nonconference matches with North Baltimore and Carey.
The Mohawks beat North Baltimore 25-21, 25-10 and fell 25-11, 25-16 to Carey.
Victoria Walter and Maddie Borer notched eight kills apiece for St. Wendelin, with Walter also coming up with 20 digs and Borer making three blocks.
The Mohawks also got five aces on 12-for-12 serving and seven blocks from Becca Starn, three aces and 16 assists from Allie Rutter and 10 assists from Chloe Reiter.

CASTALIA — Kara Scherger put away 10 kills and made 18 digs Saturday as New Riegel opened its season with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-20 nonconference whipping of Margaretta.
Taylor Arbogast added eight kills for the Blue Jackets, while Lindsay Bouillon had 15 assists and 13 digs and Leah Bouillon came up with 17 digs.
New Riegel won the junior varsity match 25-15, 12-25, 25-18. Shelby Mathias tallied seven kills and four aces, Kylie Tiell notched six assists and 14 assists, Haley Hoepf recorded four kills and 11 digs and Emily Hohman made 11 digs for the Blue Jackets.

PEMBERVILLE — Abbi Dauterman and Molly Glick combined for 41 kills as Arcadia opened its season by rallying for a 16-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-6 nonconference win Saturday at Eastwood.
Dauterman recorded 21 kills, 21 digs, six blocks and two aces, while Glick had 20 kills, 14 digs and two blocks.
Haley Kieffer collected 31 assists and 15 digs for the Redskins, while Taylor Ware had three kills and a pair of aces on 16-for-16 serving and Brooke Love notched two aces and 20 digs.
Eastwood won the junior varsity match 25-16, 25-12. Sarah Emahiser and Sarah Ball served for four and three points, respectively for Arcadia.

BASCOM — Jacque Burns notched 13 assists, 10 digs and two aces for Hopewell-Loudon, but the Chieftains fell short 25-14, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20 to Tiffin Columbian Saturday in a season-opening match.
Brooklyn Arbogast recorded 10 kills and two blocks for Hopewell-Loudon, while Shelbi Sauber tallied eight aces, seven assists and 22 digs and Alexis Feindel collected eight kills and three aces.
