Van Buren girls take 2nd in invite

NORTH BALTIMORE — Zoie Nieto posted an 85 to pace Van Buren to second place in the North Baltimore Tiger Invitational Wednesday at Birch Run Golf Course.
Rachel Peters won medalist recognition with a 76 to lead North Baltimore to a 362-373 victory over the Black Knights.
Old Fort was third with 463, followed by Mansfield with 482 and Genoa with 488.
Erin Neall carded an 86 for Van Buren, while Carlee Schmelzer shot a 93 and Morgan Jackson finished with a 109.
Nieto, Neall and Schmelzer were joined on the all-tournament team by North Baltimore’s Peters, Kelcie Bean (97) and Morgan Rose (90).
ARLINGTON — Britton Jackson carded an 82 to lead Van Buren to fifth place in the Liberty-Benton Invitational Wednesday at Sycamore Springs Golf Course.
Lima Central Catholic won the event with 323 strokes to Liberty-Benton’s 324 and Wauseon’s 330. Rossford and Van Buren tied at 343, with the Bulldogs gaining fourth on the basis of a lower fifth-player score.
Lima Bath was sixth at 346, followed by Arlington (348), Kenton (351), Lake (356), McComb (366), Van Wert (390) and Genoa (400).
Liberty-Benton’s Adam August was medalist with a 73.
Brandon Wehrle followed Jackson with an 84 for the Black Knights. Hunter Foltz shot an 87 and Cole Ohlrich had a 90.
