Fostoria HS grad Saxton to receive officiating honor

COLUMBUS — Defiance resident Larry Saxton, a Fostoria High School graduate, has been named the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s official of the year in wrestling.
Saxton and other officials of the year will be honored Saturday night at a banquet, where 15 individuals will also be inducted into the Officials Hall of Fame.
The OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame Committee has selected individuals for induction into the OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame annually since 1989. While the OHSAA’s Circle of Champions recognizes individuals from various areas who had outstanding careers in high school athletics and have further contributed to interscholastic sports, the Officials Hall of Fame is the only Hall of Fame sponsored by the OHSAA.
Saturday night’s inductees from northwest Ohio will be Ottawa’s Sam Gomer (track and field), Wapakoneta’s Steven Trout (basketball, softball, volleyball) and Elida’s David May (basketball, baseball, softball, football).
