Elmwood’s Maddy Instone finished eighth in the high jump at 5-0 Thursday as area athletes began Division II regional competition at Lexington High School and Welcome Stadium in Dayton.
Finals in some field events and the 3,200 relay took place Thursday, with preliminaries being conducted in other running events.
The top four finishers in each event at each site earn bids to the state meet next weekend at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
Also at Lexington, Elmwood’s Madison Sears advanced to Saturday’s final in the 400, recording the sixth-fastest time at 59.86. She missed making the final in the 100 with the 15th-fastest time of 13.34.
At Dayton, Fostoria High School’s lone regional qualifier, Rayshon Martin, was 13th in the long jump at 19-4¼.
Along with Sears competing Saturday at Lexington, Elmwood will have Liz Garner in the long jump and Courtney Emmitt in the pole vault.
