H-L edges Fremont St. Joseph

FREMONT — Hopewell-Loudon built an 8-3 lead through five innings and hung on for an 8-7 Midland Athletic League win over Fremont St. Joseph Saturday.
Jarid Gelinas tripled and drove in three runs, Jordan Stewart doubled, singled and drove in a run and Nick Scaife added a pair of singles and an RBI to help Hopewell-Loudon improve to 16-9 overall and 7-2 in the MAL.
Ben Wonderly hit a pair of singles and plated three runs and Marcus Kerr tripled, doubled and knocked in a run for the Crimson Streaks (5-16, 3-6).

PORT CLINTON — Van Buren improved to 15-8 Saturday with a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Port Clinton.
Justin Phillips doubled and drove in three runs and Chance Sonnenberg added a single and a pair of RBIs for the Black Knights in a 9-3 win in the opener.
Ross Adolph homered, doubled and registered four RBIs in a 6-1 win in the nightcap.
