New Riegel pitchers perfect against Vanlue

NEW RIEGEL — Taylor Kirian and Elyssa Theis combined to throw a perfect game and state-ranked New Riegel scored 15 runs in the third inning in a 22-0 Division IV sectional final victory over Vanlue Thursday in five innings.
The Blue Jackets (21-4), who are ranked third in the state, advance to face Hardin Northern (11-5) in a 5 p.m. district semifinal at Kenton High School Wednesday.
Kirian (20-4) pitched three innings and struck out four batters, while Theis pitched the final two innings with one strikeout.
Kirian also doubled, singled and drove in three runs, while Lauren Zoeller singled twice and plated three more runs.
Taylor Arbogast and Kara Scherger each notched two singles and two RBIs for New Riegel, while Leah Bouillon doubled, singled and collected two RBIs and Hailey Theis had a pair of singles and an RBI.
Brittany Baker, Emily Hohman and Lauren Ladd each singled and batted in a run for the Blue Jackets.
Losing pitcher Olivia Kliesch allowed nine earned runs on 15 hits and seven walks as the Wildcats (6-14) also committed eight errors.

ARCADIA — Abby Hall crushed a grand slam in the fifth inning and Carey totaled four home runs Thursday in a 13-9 Division IV sectional final win over Arcadia.
The Blue Devils (15-6) advance to face Riverdale, which defeated Arlington 4-2 Thursday, in a 5 p.m. district semifinal Wednesday at Kenton High School.
Dani Bardinelli-Clark and Ali Rymer opened the third inning with back-to-back home runs and two batters later Chelsea Schlack hit a two-run homer to give Carey its first lead at 7-5.
Rymer also picked up the win in the circle, Schlack added two singles and Taylor Fletcher hit a run-scoring single in the third inning.
Losing pitcher Ashley Baird belted a sixth-inning grand slam to account for the Redskins’ final runs.
Courtney Cramer and Molly Glick each hit a sole homer for Arcadia (13-8), and Maddie Mock and Skylar Conley both contributed an RBI single.

SWANTON — Jake Wise executed a bases-loaded squeeze bunt to score Nick Gillett with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning Thursday and Elmwood claimed a 5-4 Division III sectional final win over Swanton.
The Royals (10-12) advance to face either Lake or Liberty Center in a 4:15 p.m. district semifinal next Thursday at Defiance High School.
Elmwood trailed 4-2 entering the top of the seventh. Tyler Stone hit a leadoff double and came around to score two batters later on an RBI single by Tayte Lentz. Dylan Hall drew a bases-loaded walk with one out to plate the tying run before Wise came through with the go-ahead RBI.
Nolan Kerr (3-5) allowed one hit and struck out four batters in three innings of relief to pick up the win.
Trevor Solether had a double for the Royals.
Losing pitcher Liam Bloom singled twice and Kyle Dockery doubled and singled for the Bulldogs (12-9).

Thursday’s rainy weather forced the postponement of several area baseball and softball sectional tournament until today — weather permitting, of course.
In Division III baseball, games moved from Thursday to today are Lakota at Wynford and Hopewell-Loudon at Huron. Both are slated to start at 5 p.m.
Division IV softball contests moved from Thursday to day, also with 5 p.m. starts, are St. Wendelin at Tiffin Calvert, Hopewell-Loudon at Lakota and Carey and Ayersville at Van Buren.
Also, the Division III sectional game between host Elmwood and the winner between Delta and Ottawa Hills has been moved from today to Monday at 5 p.m.
In addition, the Division II sectional tennis tournament at Port Clinton, in which Fostoria High School will play, was moved to today.
