Lakota softball advances past H-L in sectional

KANSAS — Morgan Gangwer fired a three-hitter with a pair of strikeouts, doubled and drove in two runs to help Lakota shut down Hopewell-Loudon 10-0 in five innings Friday in a Division IV sectional championship contest.
Lakota (16-7) advances to face Sandusky St. Mary, which defeated Cardinal Stritch 8-2 on Friday, in a 5 p.m. district semifinal Tuesday at Fremont Ross.
The Raiders, racked up 16 hits, blew the game open with seven runs in the third inning to take a 9-0 lead.
Alaina Bickford doubled and also hit three singles, while Aspen Ray tripled, singled twice and led the Raiders with three RBIs.
Sam Miller added two singles and two RBIs and Bree Long-Meyer singled twice and drove in a run.
Mikayla Wilson singled twice for the Chieftains (2-16).

VAN BUREN — Nichole Miller tossed a four-h-tter with nine strikeouts Friday as Van Buren beat Ayersville 6-2 in a Division IV sectional softball final.
Van Buren (13-12) advances to play either North Baltimore at 5 p.m. Wednesday in a district semifinal at Elida.
Paige Sudlow had a pair of singles with an RBI and Samantha Hagans added a double with two RBIs to lead the Black Knights.

NEW RIEGEL — Michael Kirian allowed an earned run on three hits and recorded nine strikeouts as New Riegel knocked off Buckeye Central 4-1 Friday in a Division IV sectional baseball final.
Austin Mathias singled twice, Jake Dryfuse doubled and both drove in a run for the Blue Jackets (12-10), who will play Mohawk in a district semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Colonel Crawford High School.

HURON — Winning pitcher Kyle Kovach knocked in the game’s lone run in the fourth inning Friday and Huron edged Hopewell-Loudon 1-0 Friday in a Division IV sectional championship game.
The Tigers will take a 17-7 record into Thursday’s district semifinal matchup against New London at Heidelberg University in Tiffin.
Kovach allowed three hits while striking out four and walking four in 6-plus innings. Tommy Bogden closed out the game, striking out one batter in two-thirds of an inning to earn the save.
Garret Sendelbach suffered the loss after surrendering one earned run on three hits and three walks while fanning nine in six innings.
Ryan Depinet, Bryan Scherger and Austin Tooker each singled for the Chieftains (15-9).
