TOLEDO — Lydia Ko, the 17-year-old who on Sunday won the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic near San Francisco, is the latest star to commit to play in this year’s Marathon Classic.
The Marathon Classic, scheduled for July 17 through 20 at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, has also gained commitments from LPGA stars Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie, Paula Creamer, Anna Norqvist and Inbee Park.
“Receiving Lydia Ko’s commitment is the icing on the cake for us,” Marathon Classic director Judd Silverman said. “We now have nine of the top 10 players on this year’s money list committed to play in this year’s tournament. Truly an incredible field.”
On April 24, her 17th birthday, Ko was named to Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list. She was the only golfer to make the list and only the fourth LPGA player ever to do so.
