Kirian, Jackets drub Streaks

FREMONT — Taylor Kirian homered, singled twice, drove in two runs and pitched a three-hitter to help state-ranked New Riegel shut down Fremont St. Joseph 5-0 Wednesday in Midland Athletic League play.
The Blue Jackets, who are ranked No. 4 in the state in Division IV, improved to 15-4 overall and 3-1 in MAL play.
Leah Bouillon and Morgan Noftz each singled and batted in a run as New Riegel racked up 11 hits.
Lauren Zoeller and Hailey Theis each doubled and singled for the Blue Jackets.
Be Reardon took the loss for the Crimson Streaks (4-4, 2-3).

NORTH BALTIMORE — Winning pitcher Morgan Gangwer homered, doubled and ended up with two RBIs for Lakota Wednesday in an 8-5 Midland Athletic League win over North Baltimore.
Alaina Bickford also homered for the Raiders (10-4 overall, 4-1 MAL), while Nikkia Cooper, Bree Long-Meyer and Sam Miller each had two singles and an RBI. Aspen Ray totaled three singles and an RBI, while Aubrey Bickford singled and drove in a run and Breanna Ray had a pair of singles.
Makayla Knight had three hits and Jasmine Bretz homered for the Tigers (5-9, 1-3).

DOLA — Van Buren scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning and handed Hardin Northern its first Blanchard Valley Conference loss Wednesday by a 6-0 count.
Nichole Miller struck out eight in a four-hit shutout as the Black Knights improved to 6-10 overall and 3-2 in the BVC.
Miller also starred at the plate with two doubles, two singles and a pair of RBIs. Samantha Hagans’ two-run single was the catalyst for Van Buren’s big sixth.
Brooklyn Watts doubled to lead the Polar Bears (6-4, 4-1).

RAWSON — Vanlue scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back Wednesday in posting a 14-9 Blanchard Valley Conference win over Cory-Rawson.
Winning pitcher Sami Hausserman led the Wildcats at the plate, hitting three singles and a double and drove in three runs as the Wildcats moved to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the BVC.
Kate Clymer homered for Vanlue, while Haley Bonham doubled and singled and Grace Wagner and Chelsi Hartman collected two singles apiece.
Mikaela Ricksecker led the Hornets (0-9, 0-5) with a double and a single.

GENOA — Genoa scored six times in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away from Fostoria High School Wednesday for a 13-6 Northern Buckeye Conference victory.
Al Hayes singled twice and Matt Aumiller picked up the win as the Comets upped their record to 9-4 overall and 5-0 in the NBC.
Lance Smith, Noah Hammer and Kobey Bemis each singled twice as the Redmen (10-5, 2-2) outhit the Comets 10-6.
Chris Hampton took the loss.

Brandon Tittle got the win on the mound for Old Fort, while Dalton Murray took the loss for the Mohawks (2-14, 0-5).
Donovan Scudder recorded a single, a double and an RBI for St. Wendelin, while Cyle Smith and Devin Frankart each hit two singles. Brad Buhrow and Nick Root both singled and drove in a run.

Winning pitcher Kirian (4-1) allowed just two hits and one earned run and struck out five in five innings as the Blue Jackets improved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in MAL play.
Alex Theis and John Zoeller each singled and drove home a run for New Riegel.
The Crimson Streaks fell to 3-10 overall and 2-3 in the MAL.

LEIPSIC — Leipsic’s Dylan Schey allowed one run on one hit while striking out four batters in five innings and Pierce Henry hit a run-scoring triple in the fifth inning to lead the Vikings past Arcadia 3-1 Wednesday in a Blanchard Valley Conference contest.
Schey improved his record on the mound to 3-2, and the Vikings improved to 5-11 overall and 2-2 in the BVC.
Arcadia fell to 2-11 overall and 1-6 in the BVC, with its only hit being a single by Hayden Ramsey.

Lance Butler had two doubles and an RBI and Logan Cawley singled drove in two runs for the Hornets (2-10 overall, 2-3 BVC).
Troy Ritter singled and Nick Hagerty took the loss for Vanlue (2-9, 1-5).
