FHS baseball exceeds win total of last season

Rob Crotty pitched a one-hitter Saturday as Fostoria High School finished off a nonconference doubleheader sweep with a 15-2 victory over Margaretta at Grant Jackson Field.
The second-game win, which came on the heels of a 13-3 five-inning triumph in the first game, moved the Redmen’s record to 3-1, giving them one more win than they had all of last season.
Chris Hampton and Hunter Abell each doubled and singled and Alex Jackson added a double for FHS in the nightcap.
Dugan Smith moved his record to 2-0 with a three-hitter in the first game as Crotty and Kaleb Bemis hit two singles apiece.

Caleb Severance pitched a five-inning perfect game in a 16-0 Sandusky St. Mary win over St. Wendelin Saturday in a nonconference doubleheader at Lucadello Field.
The Panthers gained the sweep with a 16-2 five-inning victory in the second game.
Severance’s perfect game included 10 strikeouts.
Donovan Scudder doubled for the Mohawks in the second game, with Justin Myers and Luke Volkmer each hitting a single.
Cole Williams was the losing pitcher in both games as the Mohawks dropped to 0-3.

BASCOM — A seventh inning rally in the second game Saturday gave Hopewell-Loudon a sweep of Upper Sandusky, 14-7 and 11-10, in nonleague play.
Garret Sendelbach earned the victory in relief in the first game and picked up the win in the second contest after making the start on the mound.
Bryan Scherger homered, doubled, singled and drove in four runs on the day for the Chieftains (3-0), while Tyler Imes finished with a double, two singles and four RBIs and Jackson Sebetto added five singles, a double and an RBI.

BLUFFTON — Van Buren exploded for a combined 37 runs on 34 hits, including a pair of home runs from Isaac Sexton, and swept a doubleheader from Bluffton Saturday.
The Black Knights took the first game 19-16 and won the second 18-8.
Sexton drilled a three-run homer in the first inning of the opening game. He added a double and a single and finished with six RBIs as Van Buren withstood a 10-run fifth inning from the Pirates.
Jameson Jacobs ripped five doubles and drove in eight runs for the Black Knights (2-1) in the second game, and Sexton added another home run and picked up the win on the mound.

BASCOM — Upper Sandusky banged out 43 runs on 44 hits and posted wins of 23-4 and 20-8 over Hopewell-Loudon Saturday in a nonconference doubleheader.
Sara Gier was the winning pitcher in both contests as the Rams improved to 3-1 on the season. The Chieftains dropped to 1-2.
Shelbi Sauber singled and tripled, while Keely Hoover doubled and singled and Makayla Wilson and Emma Kirby each contributed a pair of singles for Hopewell-Loudon.
