BVC sweeps MAL in All-Star games

RAWSON — Liberty-Benton’s Adam Cytlak, John Darnall and Ryan Geise combined for nine 3-pointers and Van Buren’s Sawyer Junge knocked down three of his own to lead the Blanchard Valley Conference to a 118-99 win over the Midland Athletic League in the annual All-Star game between the two leagues, played Sunday at Cory-Rawson High School.
The BVC won the girls contest 71-54.
The matchups between the leagues was the last of 14, with the MAL dissolving after this school year.
Darnall scored 22 points, Geise 18 and Cytlak 17 as seven BVC players reached double figures. Junge scored 19 points, Cory-Rawson’s Grant Risner had 13 and Pandora-Gilboa’s Seth Schmenk and Hardin Northern’s Jacob Gossard added 10 each for the BVC All-Stars, who led 63-54 at the half.
Old Fort’s Hunter Perry led all players with 28 points. Carey’s Matthew Holsinger added 12 points — all on 3-pointers — and Lakota’s Colin Timmons had 10 for the MAL All-Stars.
Leipsic’s Haley Gerten and Pandora-Gilboa’s Megan Maag scored 14 points apiece to lead the BVC girls team to victory. McComb’s Emily Clymer added 12 points and Liberty-Benton’s Carrie Reynolds had 11 for the BVC, which led 42-30 at the half.
New Riegel’s Lauren Ladd and Mohawk’s Kasey Adelspeger scored 12 points apiece and Hopewell-Loudon’s Courtney Burns netted 11 for the MAL seniors.
