H-L 4th at Carey

CAREY — Three Hopewell-Loudon wrestlers won championships Saturday as the Chieftains finished fourth among 12 teams in the 38th annual Carey Classic.
Carey won the team title 207½-162½ over Riverdale. Hopewell-Loudon tallied 130 points, while St. Wendelin was sixth with 95, Elmwood was seventh with 89 and Arcadia was eighth with 75.
Many weight divisions were split into smaller pools of wrestlers, resulting in multiple champs in each weight class.
Hopewell-Loudon gained its titles from Braxton Young (126 pounds), Alex Brock (138) and Damion Vitt (145).
Other area champions were St. Wendelin’s Cole Williams (132) and Caleb Colburn (170), Arcadia’s Trevor Bowman (126) and Jarrod Bowman (132) and Elmwood’s Jace Groceman (152).
Riverdale’s Mitchell Matheny, a champion at 138, was named the tournament’s most valuable wrestler.

FOSTORIA GOES 3-2
AT WOODMORE DUALS
ELMORE — Two Fostoria High School wrestlers won all of their five matches Saturday as the Redmen posted a 3-2 record in Woodmore’s Wildcats Duals.
FHS defeated Fairview 40-14, Perrysburg 41-12 and Lakota 47-12 and lost 33-22 to Woodmore and 32-18 to Sandusky Perkins.
The Redmen received 5-0 performances from Zach Leonard (126 pounds) and C.J. Matheny (160). Austin Struble (113), Lance Smith (132), Elliot Hossler (138), Xavier Galvan (145) and Keegan Green (152) were 4-1 and Gabe Thompson (182) was 3-2.
