Seneca County commissioners will conduct a work session at 9:30 a.m. today, prior to its regular session at 10 a.m.
A presentation on a comprehensive plan by the Seneca Regional Planning Commission will highlight the work session, according to a meeting agenda released by the commissioners’ office Monday.
During the regular session, a discussion on county branding will take place. The Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp. has been working on a project for the county on a recognizable branding image of the county that is hoped to bolster economic development efforts.
An update on the construction of the new Justice Center is also to take place and will likely include a report on the placement of the Lady Justice statue atop the structure that took place last week.
A discussion on a recent Attorney General’s opinion dealing with board service is listed on the agenda. According to County Administrator Stacy Wilson, the item was placed on the agenda at the request of Commissioner Shayne Thomas.
“It has something to do with the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, but I can’t be any more specific than that,” Wilson told the Review Times Monday.
The commissioners are being asked to approve the appointment of special counsel for the county’s Board of Developmental Disabilities. Wilson said the special counsel is needed due to a potential conflict of interest by County Prosecutor Derek DeVine, who would normally represent the board in legal matters.
A contract with Vanguard-Sentinel Career Center is to be mulled that would provide GED instruction services to inmates at the county jail.
At 10:30 a.m., a much anticipated opening of bids for renovations to the county’s Annex Building is to take place. The latest estimate for the project was pegged at $648,000, but county officials are hoping the bids will come in lower.
The renovations are necessary to ready the building for occupancy by the county’s probate and juvenile courts, after the common pleas courts move into the justice center.
An executive session is to take place at the beginning of the regular session to discuss pending litigation.
The meeting will take place in the Commissioners Office, located at 111 Madison St., Tiffin.
