St. Wendelin is hosting a Bingo event Sept. 30, but this will not be your average Bingo game. The evening will be a ladies night with a catered meal, a cash bar, raffles, 50/50 and Bingo with prizes being designer handbags.
“Right now we have Coach, Michael Kors, Dooney and Bourke, Frye, Kate Spade, Hobo, those are the majority of our bags,” said Tami Honse, one of the event organizers.
The idea for the event came about after several parishioners attended similar events in the area.
“We have been hearing about it lately and one of our parishioners went to one in Calvert and another was for Tiffin Hospice,” Honse said. “Some ladies approached us saying they wanted to do it. We decided to give it a shot.”
Girly Bag Bingo will take place in St Wendelin gymnasium, 533 N. Countyline St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and Bingo will start at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $40 a piece and tables can be reserved with the purchase of eight tickets.
Each ticket will include dinner, catered by Flippin Jimmy’s and dessert by Brandy Wonderly, and a card for each of the 16 Bingo games for the evening. Those wanting extra Bingo cards can purchase more tickets at the event.
Although the main prizes are the big bags, there will also be consolation prizes in the form of clutches, wristlets and more all with the same name brands as the bigger bags. Raffle items include a few full size purses as well as designer brand jewelry, sunglasses and watches.
According to Honse, some of the bags have been donated and some have been sponsored. The parish offered three levels of sponsorship: Platinum Diva, Violet Bell and Pink Lady. All levels gave the sponsor advertising space at the event and on the event page on Facebook, but Platinum Diva also came with a table at the event and a personal waiter.
For any men who might want to be involved with the evening, Honse said they are looking for more waiters and men willing to help with raffles.
“We need men who would like to volunteer,” she said. “Contact the parish office.”
All funds raised from the event will go toward the parish and school in the general fund.
Tickets can be purchased at the parish office from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Honse says more tickets are remaining. They ended up moving the event to the gymnasium to accommodate more guests.
“There are some (tickets) still left,” she said. “We’ve actually changed our venue to accommodate more guests. We can accommodate up to 400 now.”
For more information, call the parish office at 419-435-6692 or check the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/GirlyBagBingo.
“Right now (the Facebook page) is just information, but soon we will be displaying our purses.”
