The city of Fostoria’s annual Independence Day celebration and fireworks display will go off with a bang today at Foundation Park.
Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with music by DJ Calen Bloom of Rhythm n Bloom DJ Service, LLC. taking place at the Wainwright Amphitheater. Food vendors will be set up throughout the park and the concession stands will be open as well.
The Geary Family YMCA will host a “Vintage Base Ball Game” starting at 6 p.m. at field no. 1 versus the Ohio Village Muffins. According to a news release, the Ohio Village Muffins are a group of enthusiastic lovers of the game who carry on the tradition of the sport as it was played in mid-nineteenth-century America.
Leonard Skonecki, local historian, will also be on hand to give a history lesson on Fostoria base ball in that era and other historical events.
The third annual “Fostoria’s Got Talent” contest, sponsored by the Fostoria Focus, starts at 8 p.m. and welcomes Fostoria residents to show off their talents for a chance to win prizes such as gift cards to local stores and restaurants.
Registration is free, and will be open from 5-7 p.m. to the first 20 Fostoria residents to sign up. The three age groups are as follows: 5-12, 13-17, and 18 and up.
The fireworks display starts at dusk and is sponsored by Sunny Farms Landfill.
