Lightning from the thunderstorm that rolled through the area Wednesday evening split a tree in half on Kennedy Lane, causing part of the tree to fall onto a house in the 1000 block. Witnesses said they could hear the crack and smell the smoke after the tree was struck. The tree landed on the garage, caving the newly installed roof, according to the homeowner, who advised no one was home during the storm. She advised last summer’s storm that brought with it strong winds and heavy rains took out more than five trees in her back yard; however, no damage was inflicted on her home. This tree brought down with it a power line and caused minimal visible damage to the remaining exterior of the residence. Multiple downed trees, wires, and poles were reported in Fostoria and in the tri-county area.
