Law enforcement officers were unable to locate any suspicious items following a report of bullet shells found at St. Wendelin Catholic School Thursday.
According to Fostoria Police Chief Keith Loreno, the janitorial staff at the private school located a couple 22-caliber ammunition rounds in the hallway while sweeping and requested officers assist in searching lockers and bags.
“It was more precautionary than anything,” he said. “There weren’t any threats involved. It was more to ensure the safety of the children.”
No firearms were uncovered during the search. Loreno said it is hard to guess where the rounds came from or how long they had been there but no safety issues were apparent.
