CAREY — A Carey man has been arrested in connection with a Tuesday morning robbery of a Carey bank.
Carey Police Chief Daniel Walter said Chad E. Gossman was being held Tuesday evening in the Wyandot County jail on charges of robbery and possession of cocaine.
According to Walter, a man wearing gray gloves, a ski mask and a black coat entered First Citizens National Bank, 129 E. Findlay St., at about 10:30 a.m. and demanded money from a teller.
“He produced a bag and said fill it,” Walter said.
The man then ran from the bank toward the east side of Carey, Walter said.
The robbery lasted about a minute and no one was hurt, Walter said.
Police said they were unsure if the man was armed. The suspect placed his hand in his pocket, Walter said.
“In the teller’s mind, he was armed,” Walter said.
After the teller contacted authorities, Carey police began a search for the suspect, Walter said.
The chief said officers recovered evidence including money believed to be stolen from the bank. No details were released about when and where Gossman was arrested.
Assisting in the investigation were the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, a county prosecutor’s office investigator, an Upper Sandusky Police Department detective, the State Highway Patrol, which provided K-9 assistance, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The investigation is continuing and formal charges are expected to be filed Wednesday, Walter said.
