Mohawk Local Schools placed under temporary lockdown today

Mohawk Local School District placed its schools under temporary lockdown this afternoon after a handgun was reported inside of a student’s locker.

The district posted on Facebook that at about 1 p.m., several students reported to Assistant Principal Brooke Bowlin that another student had a handgun in their locker in a backpack.

The school district contacted the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office immediately, and a parole officer at the school accompanied Bowlin to the locker. There, they found and secured a 9 mm handgun, and later also detained the student.

The school was placed under a Level 1 lockdown by the sheriff’s office upon arrival, and the district said there was no immediate threat to students. Students were released on time.

The incident remains under investigation by the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office.
