Many area fire departments battled a big fire Friday night at a rural pallet yard east of Findlay.

Firefighters said a building was “fully involved” when they arrived at BR Pallet, at 21395 Hancock County 7, Alvada.

The blaze was reported about 6:30 p.m., and firefighters remained at the scene at 11:30 p.m.

BR is a pallet and mulch business, located between Vanlue and West Independence. Witnesses said pallets were burning, but a big pile of mulch did not appear to be on fire.

Flames rose high and black smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles.

Vanlue and Washington Township firefighters were the first to arrive. Carey, Wharton, Delaware Township, Arlington, Allen Township and Findlay fire departments were among those providing assistance.

The owner of the property is Carl E. Ruehle, according to the Hancock County auditor’s website.
