A rural Findlay man was injured Wednesday night when his ultralight airplane crashed into a Marion Township field just east of Findlay.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reported that Dale Weaver, 79, was flying a CGS Hawk single-prop ultralight aircraft at about 8:45 p.m. Because of high winds and the slow speed of the aircraft, the plane stalled and crashed into a field east of Marion Township 242 near Forest Lake Drive, according to the sheriff’s office. The aircraft landed on both tires and sustained minor damage.
Weaver was taken by Hanco Ambulance to Blanchard Valley Hospital with unknown injuries, the sheriff’s office reported. Reports at the scene indicated that Weaver was alert and talking to rescue personnel.
The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office along with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Washington Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
