Authorities suspicious as two vacant houses burn in Ottawa

OTTAWA — Putnam County authorities are suspicious about two morning fires that damaged two vacant houses owned by the village of Ottawa.

The first fire, at 315 North Perry St., damaged a two-story house. It was called in at 5:11 a.m., authorities said.

The second fire, called in more than two hours later, at 7:19 a.m., damaged a house at 529 W. Third St., authorities said.

Both houses were scheduled to be demolished by the village, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Ottawa and Glandorf fire departments responded to the first fire, and the Ottawa, Leipsic and Kalida departments responded to the second.

The state fire marshal is investigating the two fires, authorities said.
