Power companies use low flying helicopters in area

The helicopters that can be seen and heard flying around the Fostoria area are being used by members of power companies who are checking the power lines, according to city officials.

Fostoria Mayor Eric Keckler, Safety Service Director Allyson Murray and Police Chief Keith Loreno all advised the procedure is a routine check-up to make sure the power lines are functioning properly and should not be a cause for alarm as this does not affect the safety of community members. In order to retrieve accurate readings, the helicopters must be flown at a lower height than normally seen.
