Tiffin man admits 2 murders near Carey

UPPER SANDUSKY — A rural Tiffin man has admitted fatally shooting his girlfriend and a man inside a Wyandot County sportsman’s club.

Richard L. Clark Jr., 65, pleaded guilty Monday in Wyandot County Common Pleas Court to two counts of aggravated murder, each an unclassified felony with a gun specification, Prosecutor Jonathan Miller said.

Clark admitted killing Roger Fredritz, 49, of rural Carey, and Cynthia Hawkinberry, 49, of rural Tiffin, on Nov. 1 inside the Carey Conservation and Sportsman’s Association clubhouse.

Clark was arrested there without incident shortly after the shootings, according to the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office.

At the time of the shootings, Clark and Hawkinberry were engaged, according to their Facebook pages.

Miller said a pre-sentence investigation will take place next. The prosecutor and defense will not jointly recommend a sentence, he said.

Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 7.
