BLOOMDALE — Three high school students collected donations in Findlay and Wood County with a fake cancer story, the Elmwood superintendent said today.
The students knocked on doors of area residences and told varying stories of fundraising for a fellow student or teacher with cancer, said Superintendent Tony Borton.
“None of them are true. They simply gave a different story to each victim,” Borton said.
Borton said the school district was not involved and will provide paperwork to authenticate its future fundraisers.
School discipline is pending and a sheriff’s deputy will investigate for possible charges, he said.
Courier reporter Ryan Dunn will have more in Friday’s newspaper.
